LAUNCHES: Asia's first compliant crypto fund - Circle Fund - has emerged, GoImpact to launch Singapore's first VCC ESG Fund

 

1. Man Group Plc's chief investment officer Sandy Rattray is running money once again -- and this time he has a 237-year reputation to protect. The firm has started a hedge fund managed by Londonbased Rattray and named it Man Group 1783 after the year the firm was founded, according to a person with knowledge of the matter.

2. A London-based portfolio manager from Louis Bacon's former behemoth firm Moore Capital Management is preparing to launch his own hedge fund with more than $500 million in assets under management, three sources close to the matter told Reuters. Viraj Mehta's new equities fund follows a year of just 763 new launches globally, the lowest number since 2016, according to data from Eurekahedge. Hedge fund manager Bacon last November announced he was shutting his firm Moore Capital to outside investors but would continue to invest his personal fortune.

3. Mark Otero named his new Sacramento-based hedge fund Alice Capital because like its inspiration, "Alice in Wonderland," the markets can be scary and magical. Otero was the co-founder of Sacramento's online gaming company KlickNation, which he sold to Electronic Arts Inc. (Nasdaq: EA) in a deal announced in December 2011. Otero went on to manage Capital Games, a gaming studio inside of EA, until the end of 2015, when he left to develop Alice Capital, which invests based on mathematical and data-driven parameters.

4. ValuAnalysis has launched the ValuFocus Fund, an actively managed fund which targets returns of two to three percentage points above global equity markets. Through its proprietary research, ValuAnalysis identifies stocks which create sustainable value for shareholders. Out of this universe, the ValuFocus Fund invests in those stocks whose competitive advantage is underappreciated by the market. The fund is being launched with USD10 million of seed capital from the founders.
