1. Jon Corzine's application to register his hedge fund firm was approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission, which attached a series of seldom-seen conditions on the company. The restrictions on Corzine's firm, New York-based JDC-JSC LP, limit the former U.S. Senator's ability to handle customer cash and invest in less-liquid assets, according to an order that the agency issued Monday.

2. Aviva Investors has expanded its global equity fund range with a pair of unconstrained strategies designed to capitalise on non-consensus, high conviction thinking. The first of the two new approaches is the Aviva Global Equity Unconstrained fund, which will be overseen by the company's head of global equities Mikhail Zverev. He will be supported by the wider global equities team. Zverev and his team will have the ability to invest in a concentrated, style-agnostic style, which, he said, will allow it to capitalise on market inefficiency from across the global equity universe.

3. Spanish lender Bankia has launched its first megatrends fund aimed exclusively at private banking clients. Bankia Megatendencias seeks value generation through the investment in assets and geographical areas with positive trends towards any revaluations, whether in the social, political, economic or technological field. The Fund, which counts with the financial consulting firm AFI as its adviser, has selected demographic transformation, emerging markets development, innovation and sustainable planet as its four main investment areas, also known as megatrends.

5. Maarten Petermann, who spent nearly two decades at JPMorgan Chase & Co., is preparing to start a hedge fund with at least $500 million of assets. The Merlyn Advisors fund will bet on so-called special situations such as spinoffs, mergers and acquisitions, bankruptcy or distressed companies in Europe, according to people with knowledge of the plans.
