Portal Asset Management announces CIO appointment and strategic focus

Monday, June 02, 2025
Opalesque Industry Update - Portal Asset Management announced the appointment of Greg Galton as Chief Investment Officer, as part of a broader strategic realignment of the firm's investment strategies.

Greg has been a core member of the Radiance Fund Investment Committee since joining Portal 18 months ago. More recently, he led the development and management of the Bitcoin Extraction Strategy (BESt), which targets BTC generation at the rate of 5-7% per month.

This leadership change, along with the appointment of Phil McGregor as Senior Strategist, comes as Portal sharpens its investment focus. The Radiance Fund has been trading the BTC compounding strategy exclusively since January 1, 2025. At the same time, the Portal Digital Fund (PDF), in respect of which Portal Asset Management acts as Digital Asset Advisor to the Manager, is being progressively repositioned to capitalise on high-conviction opportunities in AI-driven crypto asset funds and Web 3.0 token strategies. These moves reflect the firm's strong conviction in Bitcoin as a long-term asset class and its commitment to remaining at the forefront of digital asset innovation.

"We would also like to acknowledge Mark Witten for his five years of service as Chief Investment Officer. Mark played a key role in establishing the firm's institutional-grade fund architecture and we wish him all the best in his future endeavour," the release said.

About Greg Galton - Chief Investment Officer

Greg Galton brings over 30 years of experience in traditional funds management and stockbroking research, with a track record built across key financial centres including Hong Kong, Singapore, Melbourne and Sydney.

What sets Greg apart is not just his traditional background, but his deep, hands-on involvement in the digital asset ecosystem. Over the past five years, Greg has been actively trading Bitcoin and a broad range of altcoins on a personal basis. He has also operated Bitcoin mining infrastructure and directly interacted with decentralised finance (DeFi) protocols including Curve, Aave, and Lido, gaining real-world insight into how these protocols function under varying market conditions.

In 2024, Greg began trading the Bitcoin Extraction Strategy (BESt) with his own capital, testing the strategy before it was formally deployed into the Radiance Fund on 1 January 2025. His dual perspective as both an institutional strategist and an active participant in crypto.

About Phil McGregor - Senior Strategist, Marketing and Options Trading

Phil McGregor is the creator of the Bitcoin Extraction Strategy (BESt), a high-performance options strategy that has delivered 300%+ annualised returns during his 3 years trading the strategy exclusively in Bitcoin. The BESt strategy is the foundation of the Portal's pivot to smart returns driven by systematic, AI and Web 3.0 strategies.

Phil has been trading options since 2012, beginning with equities before transitioning fully to Bitcoin for its superior return profile. At the same time, he built a successful digital marketing agency from the ground up, growing from solo freelancer to a team with dedicated support from inside Facebook.

Phil began his career as an Intelligence Officer with the Queensland Police Service and Australian Defence Force, where he quickly rose through the ranks. He later developed and licensed telecommunications IP used by Optus, Vodafone, and Telstra resellers.

His blend of intelligence, entrepreneurship, and market acumen provides a rare edge as Portal scales its investment strategies and reach.
