Macquarie Capital strengthens aerospace, defense group

Tuesday, January 28, 2025
Opalesque Industry Update - Macquarie Capital, the corporate advisory, capital markets and principal investing arm of Macquarie Group, today announced the appointment of David Farkas as Managing Director, enhancing its aerospace, defense and government services (ADG) advisory practice.

Mr. Farkas has nearly 20 years of experience across the aerospace and defense industry, both in mergers and acquisitions and as a corporate executive. He has led complex M&A transactions and portfolio transformations in verticals such as engines and mechanical systems, aftermarket repairs and overhauls, space and satellite systems, avionics, communications and connectivity technologies, hypersonic technologies and aerospace decarbonization technologies. Mr. Farkas previously held senior leadership positions at Honeywell International, including leading corporate development and M&A for Honeywell's Aerospace business, and he served as the Senior Executive for M&A and business development at GE Aerospace. Most recently, he was a senior advisor at AlixPartners and Renaissance Strategic Partners, where he advised clients across aerospace and defense on M&A and industry trends. Mr. Farkas received his bachelor's degree from Michigan State University and his MBA from the University of Queensland.

"David's knowledge, depth of experience and reputation in the aerospace and defense industry will be immensely valuable as we support our corporate and financial sponsor clients in identifying and executing on growth opportunities," said Tim Alden, Co-head of Aerospace, Defense and Government Services coverage at Macquarie Capital.

Macquarie Capital's ADG advisory team expects the sector to see strong M&A interest in 2025 as corporates continue to evaluate their portfolios and financial sponsors seek opportunities to create value.

"The aerospace and defense sector continues to experience strong demand for commercial air travel, transformation from technological advances and growth amid the heightened global security environment," said Mr. Farkas. "As corporates evaluate and potentially reshape their portfolios and sponsors seek entry points into the industry, the Macquarie Capital platform is well-positioned to support clients with unique solutions for this critical sector."

Jeremy Parker, Co-head of Aerospace, Defense and Government Services coverage at Macquarie Capital added, "David brings extensive commercial and strategic experience in the sector, which complements the team's existing background across aerospace, defense and government services. We are delighted to welcome him to our team."

In addition to M&A advisory services, Macquarie Capital also provides debt and equity solutions, including principal investments from its balance sheet. Previous M&A transactions in the ADG sector include advising on the sale of Azure Summit Technology to CACI International Inc., advising Alion Science and Technology Corp. on its sale to Huntington Ingalls Industries, and advising Abaco Systems on its sale to AMETEK.
