DLA Piper expands investment funds practice

Tuesday, May 21, 2024
Opalesque Industry Update - DLA Piper has hired Venera Ziegler as a partner in the firm's Investment Funds practice. She will be based in the firm's New York office.

"Venera's impressive skillset, depth of experience, and highly client-centric approach will enhance our investment funds offering and further enable us to deliver the highest quality service to our clients," said Nicole Brennig, US co-chair of the Investment Funds Practice. "Venera's mix of sponsor side and investor side clients fits very nicely with our strategic vision for our growing Investment Funds practice."

Ziegler has a robust practice advising institutional investors investing in prominent private investment funds, including many Canadian institutions. In addition, Ziegler advises sponsors on the structuring, formation, restructuring, and regulatory compliance of private equity funds, funds-of-funds, and hybrid funds. She regularly represents private equity fund sponsors and their personnel in connection with economic sharing arrangements and various employment and separation agreements. Ziegler also provides advice to investment advisers on a wide variety of regulatory issues relating to private funds.

"Venera and the numerous other lateral talent our Investment Funds practice has acquired over the last year have fueled the strategic vision of combining our industry-leading institutional investor practice with our deep and growing sponsor practice," said Cara Edwards, managing partner of DLA Piper's New York office.

Ziegler joins DLA Piper on the heels of David Kreisler's arrival in the Boston office. Kreisler represents private funds sponsors globally in all aspects of their business and has more than thirty years of experience in the investment funds industry, advising clients on billions of dollars of fund formations.

The additions of Ziegler and Kreisler reflect continued execution of the strategic vision of this new group and demonstrate the firm's commitment to this space. Since the second half of 2023, the practice has made a number of notable hires. In addition to Ziegler and Kreisler, partners Andrew Kreisberg (San Diego), Mara Topping, Kate McCullough, Evan Zhao and David Solander (all in Washington, DC) and Terry Davis (Atlanta) have joined the practice. Earlier this year, the firm announced the establishment of a standalone Investment Funds group, a strategic consolidation of its Investment Management and Institutional Investor practices.

DLA Piper is a global leader in the investment funds space, providing dynamic, integrated service to sponsors, fund managers and institutional investors, supported by more than 125 dedicated practice attorneys, as well as the firm's extensive international tax and regulatory networks. The team advises clients on the full spectrum of investment funds, all major investment strategies and all stages of an investment fund's life cycle.
