Ben Melkman joins Schonfeld as a Macro Senior Portfolio Manager

Tuesday, March 07, 2023
Opalesque Industry Update - Schonfeld Strategic Advisors announced that Ben Melkman will join the firm as a portfolio manager in the firm's Discretionary Macro & Fixed Income (DMFI) strategy.

Ben will report to co-Heads of DMFI Colin Lancaster and Mitesh Parikh, and he will build out a team of experienced macro risk takers to provide more diversification and scale to his strategy. Ben plans to operate out of the Bahamas as Schonfeld seeks to further expand its global footprint in this region.

"Ben is a business builder and world-class market navigator. Colin and I know firsthand how challenging it can be to run your own firm - having to wear multiple hats in an uncertain and always on market environment. Schonfeld's flexibility allows us to attract entrepreneurial talent that would otherwise be unavailable to other platforms. We are thrilled to welcome Ben to the team and to work alongside him as he grows his business and attracts exceptional talent," said Mr. Parikh.

Previously, Mr. Melkman was the Founder and CIO of Light Sky Macro LP, a US based private hedge fund, which he launched in 2017 and closed last year. Prior to this, he was a partner and portfolio manager at Brevan Howard Asset Management and served as an Executive Director on the FX desk at Morgan Stanley. Mr. Melkman is a graduate of the London School of Economics and Political Science.

"What brought me to Schonfeld was their flexibility. I can focus on what I do best - navigating the markets, attracting talent, and speaking to investors. At Schonfeld, I have all the advantages of running my own business and none of the drawbacks," said Mr. Melkman.

Following a successful year for macro in 2022, Schonfeld's DMFI business is poised for continued growth with the team now totaling 15 senior macro investors and plans for further expansions.
