Tuesday, February 28, 2023
Opalesque Industry Update - The Standards Board for Alternative Investments (SBAI) today announced that Derek Drummond, Fund Alpha Manager at State of Wisconsin Investment Board, has been appointed as the new Chair of the SBAI North American Committee. Derek will work closely with Sapna Vir, Managing Director of Business Development at Verition Fund Management and Deputy Chair of the Committee, to lead the SBAI's activities and initiatives in North America.

Derek said, "I feel very privileged to take on this role at such an exciting time for our industry - the needs of asset managers, owners and the regulatory community are changing rapidly. The SBAI continues to be the neutral platform to solve problems and find solutions for the many issues our industry faces."

Derek Drummond succeeds Ed O'Reilly, Partner at Citadel, as Chair of the North American Committee. Ed was elected to the Board of Trustees of the SBAI in 2022 and will remain on the Committee. Ed commented, "Derek and Sapna's long history with the SBAI, coupled with their deep experience in our industry, make an ideal team to lead the SBAI in North America. I look forward to working closely with Derek, Sapna and the entire Committee to further our global impact."

The leadership appointment by the SBAI comes with several new additions to the Committee. New committee members are:

William Heard, Founder, CEO & CIO, Heard Capital

Ingrid Kiefer, Partner and Chief Marketing Officer, Canyon Partners

The SBAI North American Committee has 10 members in total, equally split across asset owners and managers, exemplifying their commitment to neutrality.

Mario Therrien, Chair of the SBAI Board of Trustees, commented, "I am excited to work with this exceptional team as we build on our strong foundation in North America and continue to make room for the next generation of leadership in our industry. "
