VARUNA Technologies hires Matthias Fischer as head of institutional business

Thursday, July 21, 2022
Opalesque Industry Update, for New Managers - VARUNA Technologies has hired Matthias Fischer as Global Head of Institutional Business, starting in the role as of July 2022.

VARUNA Technologies is a European technology-driven investment platform running a multi-manager, multi-strategy programme. The firm implements systematic techniques across all of its processes, including research, allocation and trading. It was founded by Adrian Fraenkel and Michael Goldbacher in December 2021 and has one fund open to external investment - the VARUNA Navigator Fund.

Fischer brings with him a wealth of experience across leading financial services institutions, having spent over 20 years in the industry. He joins VARUNA from the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, where he spent 9 years, most recently as Head of Financial Planning & Analysis. Prior to this, he worked at Allianz Asset Management for 14 years, rising through the ranks to the role of Head of Global Planning & Controlling.

At VARUNA, Fischer will be responsible for building and developing new and existing business relationships with pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, commercial asset managers and institutional investors.

The hire of Matthias Fischer follows several notable additions to the VARUNA management team, namely Shaun Curry and Richard Steele joining as Director and Director of Investor Relations, respectively. It also follows the news that VARUNA has launched its maiden multi-strategy quant fund, the VARUNA Navigator Fund, which is now open to external investors.

Matthias Fischer, Global Head of Institutional Business at VARUNA Technologies, commented: "I joined VARUNA because I saw a compelling product concept which eliminates human biases, developed by a team of fantastic professionals working remotely all over the world. I look forward to leveraging my past experience to support the VARUNA team and achieve great things together."

Adrian Fraenkel, co-CEO and Founder at VARUNA Technologies, said: "We are thrilled that Matthias has joined the VARUNA family. Whilst our product is fully systematic, it requires exceptional professionals behind it, and Matthias is one of the best in his field. We have assembled a world-class team and his addition takes us from strength to strength."
