Gresham House adds to strategic equity team

Tuesday, August 31, 2021
Opalesque Industry Update - Gresham House, a specialist alternative asset manager, has bolstered its Strategic Equity team with the appointment of investment managers Amber Stone-Brown and Cassie Herlihy.

Stone-Brown and Herlihy join an investment team with more than three decades of experience, led by UK equity specialist Ken Wotton and portfolio managers Adam Khanbhai, Brendan Gulston and Laurence Hulse.

The pair will work across Gresham House's award-winning range of UK equity funds, including the LF Gresham House UK Multi Cap Income Fund, Strategic Equity Capital plc and the Baronsmead VCTs - applying the team's private equity approach to investing in both public and private companies.

Their arrivals coincide with the LF Gresham House UK Multi Cap Income Fund's recent four-year anniversary. This fund remains the top performing fund in the IA UK Equity Income sector since launch and has grown to GBP112.6 million in size. The announcement also follows the appointment of Chris Elliott as Head of Wholesale Retail Funds last month to strengthen the reach of the Gresham House Strategic Equity funds amongst the UK discretionary and advisor community.

Working in EY's UK Financial Services Strategy and Transactions team since 2013, Stone-Brown specialised in the banking, capital markets and insurance sectors, as well as wealth and asset management, during which period she also qualified as a chartered accountant. In her new role, Stone-Brown will draw on her seven years' experience across the transaction life cycle to support the team's engagement with both public and private companies.

Herlihy was part of the corporate broking team at Citi prior to joining Gresham House, and previously spent two and a half years at Investec. She has experience advising listed UK listed companies across the market cap spectrum in areas such as investor engagement, corporate transactions and capital raising activity. Herlihy graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2015, before completing an MSc at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Wotton says: "While investors have started to return to the UK market, we believe the value potential across the market remains substantial. There remain tremendous growth prospects in underappreciated companies across public and private markets, which the addition of Cassie and Amber will help us identify. Their transactional experience makes them a good fit for our hands-on team and will allow us to maintain high levels of engagement across our investments."

Stone-Brown says: "It is an exciting time to be joining Gresham House, given the impressive growth it has achieved in recent years and the success of the strategic equity division despite ongoing volatility. I look forward to working with Ken, Brendan and the team as we take our range of funds to the next level."

Herlihy adds: "The impressive track record of Gresham House's Strategic Equity division has been delivered by its highly experienced team of specialist investors. I look forward to joining this dynamic team at an important stage of its development and supporting in the origination and execution of new investments in an improving macro environment."
