Northern Trust adds two

Wednesday, October 31, 2018
Opalesque Industry Update -     Northern Trust today announced that it has appointed Dane Fannin as global head of securities lending. Mark Snowdon has been appointed to lead Capital Markets for the firm in Asia-Pacific (APAC).

Fannin, who joined Northern Trust in London in 2006, was most recently head of Capital Markets for APAC, based in Hong Kong. He will relocate to Chicago to take up his new role, effective 1 January 2019. Fannin will report to Michael Vardas, global head of Northern Trust Capital Markets, working closely with Andy Clayton, head of Capital Markets for Europe, Middle East and Africa.

"Securities lending has a critical role to play in optimizing performance for asset managers, and asset owners, across their investment programmes," said Vardas. "In today's increasingly complex and uncertain investment environment, forward-thinking firms are able to do this whilst operating within client-specific guidelines and risk management parameters. "Dane, through his global experience, will lead the development, expansion and innovation of Northern Trust's securities lending capabilities for our global clients."

With clients around the globe, Northern Trust undertakes securities lending in 35 countries covering 54 worldwide equity and fixed income markets. Its clients draw on 24-hour trading capabilities delivered from Hong Kong, London, Toronto, Sydney and Chicago, supported by a single, multi-currency proprietary technology platform.

Securities lending is a core component of Northern Trust Capital Markets. The business, which delivers innovative, transparent and high-quality trading and execution solutions, is underpinned by insightful research and sophisticated technology across institutional brokerage, transition management, foreign exchange and securities lending.

Replacing Fannin and taking on an expanded role as head of Capital Markets APAC, is Mark Snowdon.  Snowdon was most recently responsible for Northern Trust's regional securities lending sales and relationship management team, based in Singapore. He joined Northern Trust in 2010 and prior to his current role spent five years in Northern Trust's London office. He reports to Clayton.

"The Asia-Pacific region is an important area of growth for Northern Trust," said William Mak, head of Northern Trust in APAC. "As markets in the region continue to seek innovative Capital Markets products, we see significant opportunity to bring our customizable capabilities to the region. Mark, through his experience and understanding of our client needs is well-placed for this leadership role."
