Incline Investment Management builds business development team and expands distribution on 4th anniversary

Thursday, July 21, 2016
Opalesque Industry Update - IIM’s proprietary investment program, the Systematic Hybrid Strategy, has reached the four-year mark. During this time the strategy has met its objective of non-correlated diversification with equity-like volatility.

Since July 1, 2012, the Systematic Hybrid Strategy has outperformed its benchmark, the HFRX Macro: Systematic Diversified CTA Index by close to 25%. A classic case of the ‘crisis alpha’ offered by the Strategy was apparent the day after the Brexit vote on June 23rd where the Strategy was up ~9.5%. The Systematic Hybrid Strategy was up 9.45% in June.

Ted Parkhill, CEO of Incline Investment Management has announced that the firm has expanded distribution and hired a new Business Development Team in response to demand for non-correlated investment strategies. IIM has hired three new financial professionals to assist advisors and investors in navigating these volatile markets.

Growing Business Development Team:

IIM’s marketing thrusts continue to be discerning high net worth investors and, more recently, the independent registered investment advisor channel. As a result, the firm has expanded its Business Development team with the hiring of the following individuals:

Bryan Duffy, Director, Business Development – Bryan is an experienced financial wholesaler and was previously Regional Director at Natixis Global Asset Management and an Internal Business Consultant at John Hancock. Mr. Duffy noted, “I am very excited about joining IIM. After working for 10 years in the mutual fund space for two premier asset managers, I wanted to leverage my experience at a firm that utilizes the type of strategy every investor should have in their portfolio. The expertise from the founders of IIM, combined with their passion and commitment, I believe is the combination to create a great opportunity in a very exciting and dynamic space.” He holds a BA from Merrimack College and is a Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor (“CRPC”). He is based in Oakland, CA.

Ian Chester, Director, Business Development – Ian is also an experienced financial wholesaler and was previously a Vice President, Business Development at Realty Capital Securities, LLC, in Boston, MA. Mr. Chester stated, “I was looking to join a firm whose mission statement I believed in. I am excited to be part of a team that has created an investment strategy that diversifies away risk and has the potential to protect investors in the event of the next downturn. During these turbulent times, I am also seeing the tremendous value in the systematic space. When no one seems to be able to make sense of things, it is comforting to provide a strategy that is unwavering in its discipline”. Ian earned an MBA from Babson College and is a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (“CAIA”) candidate. He is based in Boston, MA.

Cory Johnson, Associate – Cory holds a Bachelor’s degree in entrepreneurship with a concentration in marketing and global business management from Sierra Nevada College. He is a former nationally-ranked collegiate athlete and is based in Incline Village, NV. Mr. Johnson stated, “I’m excited to introduce investors to the powerful benefits of alternative investment strategies and the value they can add to traditional portfolios.”

Expanded Relationships

Due to the success of the Strategy, IIM is also pleased to announce that the program is available through alternative investment platforms at several leading firms. Todd Hurlbut, CIO of IIM, noted, “At this unprecedented juncture with stocks at all time high levels and bond yields at historical lows, investors are recognizing that a traditional 60/40 portfolio allocation may face stiff headwinds in achieving returns similar to those enjoyed over the past 30 years.” Investment professionals seeking greater diversification for client portfolios may contact IIM for more information. Past performance is not necessarily indicative of future results.

Incline Investment Management is an alternative investment manager that utilizes a systematic macro strategy designed to capture price trends across global markets. Its proprietary Systematic Hybrid Strategy invests in over 70 global futures markets as well as US equities. The strategy is directionally agnostic and designed to deliver non-correlated returns in up or down markets.

The principals of IIM are Ted Parkhill and Todd Hurlbut, CIO. Mr. Parkhill is a veteran of the ’40 Act and alternative investment business. He worked for a number of years for one of the pioneers in the systematic space, John W. Henry & Company. Mr. Hurlbut began his career with Salomon Smith Barney and was mentored by one of Jack Schwager’s original Market Wizards; Ed Seykota. The philosophy shared by both principals is that having a systematic, directionally agnostic approach to investing is prudent and complementary to a traditional long-only portfolio. Having exposure to a systematic macro approach, like IIM's Systematic Hybrid Strategy, provides investors’ portfolios with the benefit of non-correlation and potential downside protection.
