UCITS HFS Index experiences slow down, up 0.27% in November (3% YTD)

Friday, December 13, 2013
Opalesque Industry Update - The UCITS HFS Index posts its third positive monthly result in a row in November 2013 (0.27%). The broad index started negatively into the month with losses of -0.14% after the first full week of trading. Things turned around in week two though with gains of 0.16%. Although the third week of November only brought marginal gains of 0.03%, the positive monthly result was ensured with a strong performance of 0.22% in the last week of trading. From all funds tracked in the UCITS HFS Index 64.45% reported profits in November 2013.

From a sub-strategy perspective eight of the twelve sub-strategies reported positive results in November, the best performing being CTA (1.15%), L/S Equity (1.19%) and Event Driven (0.51%). While the later only posted slight losses in the third week of trading, L/S Equity and CTA both had to take losses in the first week. Both recovered quickly though, adding most of their gains in the last week of the month. The three worst performing strategies were Commodity (-0.52%), Fixed Income (-0.39%) and Convertible (-0.08%). All three strategies took their biggest losses in the first week of November. Although all strategies had one positive weekly performance, it was not enough to impact the negative monthly result. Commodity stays the worst performing strategy in 2013 (-4.20%), while CTA and Currency turned positive for 2013. From a year to date perspective the broad UCITS HFS Index now stands at 3.01% in 2013.
