Hedge fund flows dip -0.16% in October after eight straight months of inflows

Tuesday, October 13, 2026

Matthias Knab, Opalesque for New Managers:

Hedge fund inflows ended an eight-month positive streak in October. Net flows as measured by the SS&C GlobeOp Capital Movement Index declined 0.16%, following a 0.65% increase in September. Inflows of 1.10% were outweighed by outflows of 1.26%.

"SS&C GlobeOp's Capital Movement Index for October 2026 was -0.16%, which was consistent with quarter-end rebalancing patterns," said Bill Stone, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of SS&C Technologies. "Heading into the last calendar quarter of the year, investors face a number of market risks, including potential congressional changes from the U.S. midterm elections, additional rate hikes, lingering geopolitical conflicts, and volatile energy prices. Hedge funds remain an attractive option for investors during uncertain periods, helping to dampen drawdowns and enhance risk-adjusted returns."

Longer-term flows still positive

Despite the October decline, the Capital Movement Index stands at 132.94 points, up 5.45 points over the past 12 months. The index reached its 12-month high of 133.10 in September 2026, up from a 12-month low of 127.76 in January 2026. Its all-time high remains 150.77, set in September 2013.

The SS&C GlobeOp Forward Redemption Indicator, which tracks notified future redemptions, hit an all-time low of 1.26% in April 2026. Its 12-month high was 2.43% in November 2025, far below the record 19.27% reached in November 2008.

Performance slips in September

The SS&C GlobeOp Hedge Fund Performance Index returned an estimated -0.31% gross in September 2026. Year to date, the index is up 8.27%, and over the last 12 months it has gained 12.99%. Since its inception at the start of 2006, it has returned 378.86% (all figures gross).

About the indices

The Performance Index is an asset-weighted measure of the gross aggregate performance of funds administered on the platform. SS&C GlobeOp's assets under administration on the platform represent approximately 10% of the estimated assets invested in the hedge fund sector. The next publication date is 12 November 2026.
