Matthias Knab, Opalesque for New Managers: Hedge funds took in $13bn of net capital during the first half of 2026, putting the industry on course for a second consecutive year of positive capital raising, according to the Hedge Fund Trends Report 2026 published by With Intelligence, part of S&P Global.
The figure marks a decisive break from the recent past. Between Q4 2021 and Q4 2024, the industry recorded net outflows in 12 out of 13 quarters. The second quarter of 2026 alone brought in $6.6bn - the sixth consecutive quarter of net inflows - and held up despite redemption pressure across several strategies during June.
Sam Macdonald, Hedge Fund Research Lead at With Intelligence, said institutional investors are adding exposure even after a stretch of high-profile volatility, with appetite concentrated in commodities, fixed income and credit-focused funds. The report, he noted, sets out "some of the key drivers shaping that trend."
