Matthias Knab, Opalesque: MAPFRE, Spain's largest insurance group, has restructured MAPFRE Asset Management as part of its ambition to become a national benchmark in financial planning. The reorganisation involves the creation of new departments, a redefinition of responsibilities, and a strategic shift in focus from product manufacturing to service-led asset management.
One of the key changes is the creation of a strategic project development and innovation area. This unit brings together initiatives such as the implementation of BlackRock's Aladdin technology platform, announced in late 2024, and the expansion of discretionary portfolio management. The goal is to strengthen asset allocation capabilities and improve integration between insurance and investment portfolios.
As part of the transformation, MAPFRE AM has been reorganised into two main verticals. The investment area focuses on traditional fixed income, equities, alternative investments, and asset-liability management for the group balance sheet. In parallel, a dedicated asset allocation area concentrates on multi-asset strategies and fund selection, supporting a more holistic financial planning approach.
