Dave Checketts, Cynosure Group partner on sports investing

Dave Checketts, an influential figure in global sports business, and the Cynosure Group, private investment firm founded by the Eccles family, are partnering to invest in sports. They have created Cynosure | Checketts Sports Capital, a new strategic collaboration dedicated to investing in high-potential sports opportunities.

Their initial fund targets commitments in excess of $1.2 billion. The partnership will have offices in both New York and Salt Lake City.

The two entities worked on the deal to keep the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City and have invested in other sports related deals over the years.

"This partnership is a dream come true for me, reuniting me with the Eccles family, who were key in keeping the Jazz in Salt Lake City, bringing the Olympic Winter Games to Utah in 2002 and building tremendous intercollegiate athletic programs in the state," said Dave Checketts.

The firm will focus on investments in several key areas including professional and collegiate sports teams; sports leagues; stadiums and other sports facilities; sports technology, and media rights/broadcasting.

Checketts has previously been President and CEO of the Utah Jazz, President of the New York Knicks, and President and CEO of Madison Square Garden.
