Laxman Pai, Opalesque Asia: The energy-infrastructure investor Energy Capital Partners (ECP) closed its latest flagship buyout fund ECP V at a total of $6.7 billion in commitments and co-investment opportunities.
The fund raised $4.4 billion in capital commitments, above its fundraising target of $4 billion, and ECP also raised an additional $2.3 billion of co-investment opportunities, according to a press release from the investor across energy transition, electrification, and decarbonization infrastructure assets.
ECP V invests in large and growing energy companies in power generation and renewable and storage assets, as well as decarbonization infrastructure. The previous fund, Energy Capital Partners IV, closed in 2020 after raising $3.5 billion for co-investment opportunities and had another $3.3 billion in capital commitments.
"The successful final close of ECP V represents a milestone for our firm and demonstrates the strong support and confidence from our LPs around the world," said Emily Zovko, Head of Investor Services and Managing Director at ECP. "ECP's focused efforts to build, execute, and ultimately drive value from a robust pipeline of investments tied to electrification, decarbonization, reliability, and sustainability remain at the center of ECP's success as it has for the last 19 years."
