Investors look more closely at private equity and private credit

While there has been a slowdown in fundraising and distributions, investors are still interested private equity and private credit according to the S&P Global Market Intelligence 2024 Private Equity and Venture Capital Outlook.

The S&P Global Market Intelligence Private Equity and Venture Capital Outlook surveyed a total of 370 global private equity, venture capital and limited partner respondents across North America, Latin America, Asia Pacific, Middle Eastern and Africa regions.

Private equity executives also reported that they are starting to see more sings of life in the M&A market which could lead to a relatively positive year. 60% of executives surveyed as part of the outlook said they expect to see an improvement in the M&A market, compared to just 30% in 2023.

Venture capital GPs were also more positive about the environment. 68% of those surveyed expect the deal market to improve in 2024.

Survey respondents also showed increased interest in private credit and shared that artificial intelligence (AI) will play a larger role in deal sourcing and target selection. 61% of LPs reported that they will increase their asset allocation to private credit in 2024. 54% of GP investment professionals foresee AI influencing deal sourcing and target selection in the future.
