Commodity hedge fund manager Four Elements embraces AI

Friday, January 05, 2024

B. G., Opalesque Geneva:

Headquartered in Singapore, Four Elements Capital, a specialized commodity asset manager, has been focusing on delivering absolute returns through a fundamental systematic investment approach since 2008. The firm has just undertaken a strategic shift in its investment process.

Four Elements manages a flagship Fund - the Earth Element Fund - and three managed accounts. The Earth Element Fund, soft-launched in December 2008 has had EUR and USD tranches since January 2009. Through this long/short commodity fund, the manager aims to generate alpha by applying a quantitative methodology to both fundamental and market data across the entire commodity sector.

From the very start of 2024, the manager has enhanced its fund management approach by incorporating advanced machine learning and AI technologies into its fund portfolios across asset classes.

The primary fund will transform into a diversified Pure Alpha Managed Futures Fund, covering various asset classes such as commodities, equities, interest rates, and foreign exchange futures. Thus the Element Fund is transitioning into a cross-asset, quantitative model, using AI technology to become the Pure Alpha Quant Element Fund. It retains the legal framework of the Earth Element Fund, which boasts a 15-year track record. The EUR Class of the Fund is changing benchmark to become the Long Alpha Quant Element Fund.
