Digital transformation in the investment management industry likely to accelerate in 2024

The key trends in investment management are spending on technology, theme-driven portfolio construction, customers' expectations of personalisation, closer collaboration across departments within organisations, quantum-related cybersecurity threats, and a strengthening of the sense of purpose within organisations. This is according to Deloitte's 2024 investment management outlook report.

Spending on technology

Looking at this year's and the last two years of their proprietary survey data, Deloitte sees growing pessimism in how respondents feel about their firm's revenue prospects over the next year.

It is then no surprise that spending on technology - including disruptive emerging technology - is not expected to increase significantly. In fact, this year, fewer respondents are expecting a large increase in spending on technologies compared to last year and the year before. A dynamic like this could further separate a small group of technology leaders from the rest of the pack, provided that the investments can actually lead to enhanced performance and delighted investors.
