Laxman Pai, Opalesque Asia: Two former JP Morgan credit bankers launched a new impact investment advisory firm ImpactA Global focused on emerging market infrastructure.
Legal & General Capital has taken a significant minority stake in the women-led firm, which will provide debt financing for sustainable infrastructure projects in emerging markets.
It wants to bridge the funding gap for sustainable infrastructure projects in areas including Latin America, Africa, and South Asia through debt financing.
Founders Isabella da Costa Mendes and Victoria Miles previously worked together at JPMorgan. Miles was a managing director in the bank's London-based emerging markets team, while da Costa Mendes led the credit structuring team. Isabella and Victoria are joined by Susan Ward and Audrey Caulliez-Louis as Partners in the business.
Aligned with Legal & General's strategy to create positive environmental and socio-economic impact, the investment in ImpactA is indicative of the partnerships Legal & General looks for as part of its General Partners (GP) Investing Program, said a press release.
With ImpactA's focus on emerging markets and addressing inequalities through its investments, its mission and target sectors are squarely aligned with Legal & General's own sustainability goals, the release added.
