Oakley Capital raises $3.08bn for its fifth flagship growth fund

The pan-European, mid-market private equity investor Oakley Capital Private Equity held a final close at €2.85bn ( $3.08bn) for Oakley Capital V.

The London-based investment firm began fundraising for its fifth flagship growth equity fund in December 2021, with a target size of €2.5 billion. The vehicle's predecessor Oakley Capital IV had a final close of €1.46 billion in June 2019.

Fund V welcomed new LPs from across the world, in particular pension funds from North America, while the Oakley Network which comprises entrepreneurs the Firm has previously partnered with will contribute almost €200 million.

"Oakley welcomes 25 new institutional investors from across N America & EMEA. Continued focus on backing ambitious entrepreneurs and fast-growing, European businesses across core sectors of technology, consumer, and education. Fundraise brings total AUM to €8 billion," said a media release from the European PE investor.

According to the release, the fresh fundraise will enable Oakley to continue applying the successful investment strategy that has delivered gross realized returns of 4x MM and 67% IRR across all funds since inception.

Fund V will maintain the same focus on investing behind founders and entrepreneurs in its three core sectors of technology, consumer, and education, backing businesses with typical EVs of €100-500m, it added.
