Sunak will encourage domestic and international investment in UK plc

Rishi Sunak, a 42-year-old millionaire and former hedge fund manager, will be the UK's youngest leader in two centuries.

When named chancellor in early 2020, Rishi Sunak was challenged by Labour, the rival political party, to provide more details about his former career as a City hedge fund manager before entering politics, The Guardian reported then. Labour said Sunak's former close associate Patrick Degorce had participated in a multimillion-pound tax avoidance scheme.

Degorce and Sunak both worked for the Children's Investment Fund Management, a hedge fund run by the billionaire Sir Chris Hohn, which also had links to companies in the Cayman Islands (a jurisdiction in the EU's blacklist of tax havens). Degorce was also the founder of Theleme Partners, a hedge fund which Sunak helped to found in 2009.

His financial past will be helpful to the country, some believe. Sunak's experience in financial services and the markets, and as Chancellor, will provide a positive backdrop to private enterprise in general and private markets in particular, as he will seek to realise some benefits from Brexit and encourage both domestic and international inward investment to UK plc.
