Laxman Pai, Opalesque Asia: After launching in 2020, the Finance for Biodiversity Pledge initiative is now backed by 89 financial firms committed to improving and sharing knowledge, and engaging with companies on biodiversity.
With its latest additions of five new signatories - Société Générale Assurances, La Française, EAB Group, Future Food Fund, and Planet A - the initiative has reached a milestone with managing a combined €13tn ($14tn) in assets.
Its signatories are committed to protecting and restoring biodiversity by collaborating and sharing knowledge, engaging with companies, assessing impact, setting targets, and reporting their progress publicly before 2025.
The Open-Ended Working Group on the Post-2020 Biodiversity Framework is tasked with advancing preparations for the development of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework. This process is expected to lead to the adoption of a post-2020 global biodiversity framework during the second phase of the UN Biodiversity Conference in August-September 2022.
The OEWG3 meeting is held in a physical setting from 13 to 29 March 2022 in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Finance for Biodiversity Pledge is a commitment of financial institutions to protect and restore biodiversity through their finance activities and investments.
