Law firm reports on how hedge funds are faring in the time of the pandemic

How are hedge fund managers raising capital, launching funds, managing withdrawals, and communicating with investors these days? Apparently, the need for on-site due diligence can be a show-stopper, especially for less well-established funds. But their more reputable peers are doing better with fund raising. Withdrawals are well managed thanks to protective provisions and creative offerings. Furthermore, some managers are either accelerating fund launches while others are launching to seize current opportunities. Finally, technology has proven to be an essential tool for communication.

U.S. law firm Seward & Kissel has issued a survey report on capital raising in the age of the coronavirus that focuses on manager selection, investment terms and investor communication in the investment management industry.

Manager selection is severely affected by the inability to conduct on-site due diligence, the report says. However, managers who have existing strong relationships are reaping the greatest rewards, as well as top-tier managers. "In addition, the following areas and sectors have attracted the greatest interest (even for less established managers): credit/distressed/dislocated; low-net; market-neutral; municipal bonds; CLOs; healthcare/b......................
