The Corona Fighters Report 13: Asset managers that delivered in the downturn

Wednesday, April 22, 2020

B. G., Opalesque Geneva:

Amid the current market turmoil, this is our regular report on hedge fund managers who are bucking the trend.

Quadriga Igneo UCITS was +19% in March, accumulating net gains of +42.5% in 2020, and +55.2% since launch, which was achieved with an +4.9 Sortino (return per unit of downside volatility). It is managed by Quadriga Asset Managers, which is based in Madrid, Spain.

"We believe global markets have entered a new paradigm," says managing director Diego Parrilla, "with risks and opportunities without precedents, and recommend prudence and truly balanced portfolios that combine risk-on strategies and assets (such as equities or credit, "the strikers"), with more defensive strategies (such as Igneo, "the goal-keeper"), the highly conservative strategy that seeks to protect the capital and generate large high absolute returns during adverse and hostile markets, when investors need it the most."

Schot Capital's Multi Diversified Program is up 8.9% YTD after returning 3.4% in March. According to IASG.com, Jacob Schot, who finalised the Multi Diversified Program in January 2007 and who until recently managed the strategy under family office Lawrence Capital, has established Schot Capital as an independent entity to run the program. The firm will be managed out of Gibraltar, where Schot is based. The program trades global futures markets, including fixed income, equity indices, currencies, energy, grains, and soft commodities. It aims to capture both long and short trends and consists of multiple, non-correlated strategies.
