Ares Management appoints ex-Caisse private equity head Stephane Etroy for European push

American global alternative asset manager Ares Management Corporation has hired Stephane Etroy from Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec as head of European private equity.

According to a press note from the $144 billion of assets under management firm, based in London, Etroy will lead Ares' private equity activities by looking for opportunities from the firm's European credit and real estate platforms.

He will serve as a member of the corporate opportunities investment committee for the firm's private equity group. Etroy will join the firm on February 6.

Etroy brings 18 years of global private equity experience. He previously worked in London as executive vice president and head of private equity at C$326.7 billion ($248 billion) Caisse de depot et placement du Quebec (CDPQ), Montreal.

While at CDPQ, Etroy was responsible for the London office and sat on CDPQ's Executive Committee and Investment-Risk Committee.

"We see a significant opportunity for expansion of our private equity franchise in Europe and we believe Stephane is perfectly suited to collaborate with our existing, leading businesses in the region and execute upon our growth plans," said David Kaplan, Ares co-Founder and co-chairman of the private equity group.
