Survey says institutional investors see future in initial coin offerings

19% of surveyed institutional investors believe that digital assets will be regularly invested and traded in by 2021, said a survey by the Global Blockchain Business Council.

According to the poll of 71 institutional investors worldwide, 41% of respondents will start investing in initial coin offerings (ICOs) within the next five years.

The growth of the digital asset industry can increase the ICO market, as 16% of those surveyed responded that they would invest in that sector within three years.

A further 28% believe this will happen in four or five years' time, and 21% anticipate it happening between six and ten years' time. Only 23% envisage a scenario where institutional investors will never invest in ICOs.

Sandra Ro, CEO of the GBBC, said that by 2027, crypto and digital assets would consist of at least 10% of the global GDP.

"However, before its potential can be truly realized, there needs to be a stronger regulatory environment, which governments and regulators seem committed to delivering," Sandra added.

Last month, in another survey, GBBC said that 40% of institutional investors believe blockchain may be the most important innovation since the internet.

The GBBC's findings revealed that 40% of institutional investors that responded to its survey think blockchain "could be the most transformative technology since the internet."
