Real estate expert comes back to invest-tech with launch of platform

Manfredi Mattei Filo della Torre is launching a real estate private debt investment platform that links investors and real estate managers.

"Janus.pe is going through a pre-qualifying process," he tells Opalesque. "We launched a landing page through which we are pre-qualifying investors and possible asset managers. We use this as a marketing funnel to generate a first tier of interested profiles."

He is no stranger to the real estate market, coming from a family of "old-styled real estate developers." He is also no stranger to the property invest-tech space or to private equity: he left the family business in 2014 to launch a direct real estate management platform, a precursor to the current model, where he would connect investors to a local team of asset managers and source opportunities in the market. This platform was called Janus Investment Partners LLC and it was an innovator in its class. But it closed a few years later due to "lack of leadership," with 30 subscribers that managed in excess of $20m.

"I was young and I built a team of seniors," he explains. "And then I discovered that managing a team of senior professionals was quite complicated: we were all Type A personalities.
