Jim Hedges to launch art investment fund

James R. Hedges, IV was one of the early leaders in the hedge fund and alternative investments industry and is the author of Hedges on Hedge Funds. He was the Founder, President, and Chief Investment Officer of LJH Global Investments, LLC, an alternative investment advisory firm which he founded in 1992 and sold in 2010.

More recently, he has turned his focus to art investing. Named as one of "The Top 100 Collectors in America", Hedges has also been an active art collector and patron for over 20 years and is recognized as the top global collector of Warhol Photography. Now, he is launching a fund that will focus on art investing.

"Art is probably the last unregulated investable market in the world," Hedges said in a recent Opalesque TV interview. "We estimate that there are about $50 billion dollars a year of turnover so there's an enormous amount of volume of transactions going on."

Hedges says the art world is ripe for a relative value investment strategy based on which artists have defensible liquid markets and those that do not. " I started seeing that there were huge valuation disparities between this blue-chip artist, or this equally blue-chip artist but whose market just hadn't seen the appreciation in the United States and therefore was at a great discount."
