John Paulson, once the industry's largest hedge fund, to return some investors' money

John Paulson is reported to be retuning some of his investors' money as a number of his hedge funds continue to suffer setbacks, reports Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the matter.

The report said that Paulson has informed his investors in some of his funds, including the Credit Opportunities fund, would receive back their money or transfer their capital to a separate pool or be forced to redeem their portfolios.

Paulson's downward spiral from being one of the biggest in the industry at one time with $38bn in assets in 2011 to its current size of nearly $8bn, has been reducing its staff over past few weeks as the hedge fund let go of several partners and senior traders.

His reversal of fortune was a shock to the industry after making a fortune by correctly predicting the U.S. housing market crash more than a decade ago. A series of bad judgment and investment missteps resulted to Paulson's misfortune.

Paulson's losses

In his latest filing, Paulson lost $1.5 million (-40% on investment) in the Paulson Advantage Plus fund. Losses from this flagship fund continued with the New York Times reporting that the Advantage fund has consecutively rec......................
