Other Voices: Risk parity - looking at risk through a different lens

Our outlook calls for low returns by historical standards for traditional asset classes over the medium term. Looking backward, we have experienced higher levels of equity market volatility in the past year with notable spikes in Q3 2015 and Q1 2016. Now is a good time to review how much equity market sensitivity resides in your portfolio. We believe the muted outlook for investment returns and potential for a significant equity market drawdown merits consideration for diversifying investment strategies. One strategy that better balances risk across a broad range of asset markets is risk parity, which we reviewed in our recently written white paper.
