Hatteras launches market neutral fund, expands multi-manger fund to retail

Hatteras Funds has launched a Market Neutral Fund (HMNAX), which is designed to diversify stock portfolios by seeking to generate absolute returns independent of the market environment. The Fund also employs a multi-manager approach that invests across three hedge fund managers with long-term experience executing market neutral strategies.

"What we wanted to do with this fund is give investors an option for capital preservation with low volatility," explains Michael Hennen, Director, Portfolio Management, Hatteras Funds in an interview with Opalesque.

Also today, the firm has expanded the availability of its Alternative Multi-Manager Fund (HHSIX). The fund has been available to select institutional clients since 2011. The strategy will be made available to mass affluent investors through Hatteras' existing distribution channels.

The fund will continue to be co-managed by Portfolio Managers Michael P. Hennen and R. Ty Powers.

The investment objective of the fund is to achieve consistent returns with low correlation to traditional financial market indices, while maintaining a high correlation to the Hedge Fund Research, Inc. Fund of Funds Composite Index. The fund is diversified by four hedge fund strategies and is concentrated in long/short equity and event-driven strategies to potentially generate higher returns.
