Aequam Capital: Asset management industry will be mainly quantitative going forward

Before starting his boutique in 2010, Arnaud Chretien, co-founder and CIO of Aequam Capital, worked ten years as a market trader and 18 years as a quantitative and systematic fund manager for Société Générale and then the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority.

His life is otherwise simple, he says during an interview with Matthias Knab on Opalesque TV, "Family is at the center. investing in markets, using quantitative methods is my passion. I would say thanks to my grandmother who has a PHD in Mathematics, and sport and meditation (which) keep your mind and body in good sync."

He reminisces about the October 1987 crash which took place when he was just starting his career as a trader: "the first lesson it taught me, it’s all about people who care; and of course the second lesson, it’s all about risk management and diversification," he notes. "It’s my conviction and it has designed the way we invest in markets; stay calm and humble, target risk, and then performance would be the reward."

Risk allocation is Aequam’s DNA, he explains, "Dynamic risk allocator is a unique concept. Mixing momentum and relative value strategies are two dimensions central to all our products at Aequam."
