Infrastructure and energy investments are attractive despite challenges Opalesque Frankfurt Roundtable

Hedge fund managers who attended the latest Opalesque Frankfurt Roundtable discussed opportunities in renewable energy and infrastructure.

The Roundtable was sponsored by Eurex, and took place at the Deutsche Borse in Frankfurt in June.

Institutional investors display an increased willingness to try different things, including renewable energy, that is, energy which comes from natural resources such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, and geothermal heat. "Obviously, you have to demonstrate a clear edge when going into such a niche, specifically if you are targeting German institutions," Christian von Strachwitz commented. "We see exactly the same with a number of developments around tail hedge and other completely different areas like natural resources, renewable energy and so forth. We find ourselves talking to investors which we honestly would not have dared to approach two years ago." Von Strachwitz is founding partner of Quaesta Capital, an alternative investments manager active in the fields of FX, macro, fixed income and renewable energy.
