UK and Canadian links lie behind creation of Generation

Its been a brand new voyage into the Canadian hedge fund community for Sixten Eriksson, managing partner of London headquartered Generation Asset Management, "and a good one" he says, as he is impressed with what he has seen so far. The Canadian hedge fund industry is relatively small but growing and Eriksson can see parallels with his native Sweden where great managers are under rated or disregarded from a global investors perspective.

"Our challenge is to raise the Canadian profile in the hedge fund industry" Eriksson says. He joined Generation in 2010. The firm was founded in collaboration with Toronto headquartered Canadian firm, Arrow Capital Management. The entire group has $1bn under management, with Generation managing $300m.

The London firm has a Ucits platform which has a global emerging market fund and three to four others on the way. "We offer a platform for new hedge funds if we like them" Eriksson says. "We see a lot of managers who are looking to launch in Ucits. A lot of very talented people with $20-30m in a Cayman fund and now looking at other structures and Ucits is certainly the future for most strategies."
