Fair trade investing grows in Switzerland

Socially responsible investing, also known as impact investing allows investors to make standard investments coupled with additional social benefits. In the case of responsAbility, investors can finance local cooperatives, and gain a diversified exposure to commodities such as coffee while also directly benefiting local farming communities through a Fair Trade payment scheme. Fair Trade arrangements ensure that local farmers are paid fair market prices for their goods or services such that they can more easily survive through a livable wage.

Fair Trade arrangements are a way for smaller farms and developing economies to compete against larger operations which are often subsidized and can therefore afford to take lower prices in some cases.
