Hedge fund managers should strengthen their existing relationship with institutional investors to assure them access to assets. Building a strong relationship with institutional investors is also crucial for the long-term success of asset managers, said research firm Cerulli Associates.
In its latest Cerulli Special Quantitative Update: Institutional Markets 2011 which analyses U.S. institutional markets, including public and private DC and DB, endowments and foundations, insurance general accounts, and subadvisory, CITs, hedge funds, and ETFs, Cerulli said the report includes analysis from five proprietary surveys and 25 secondary sources. In addition, qualitative insight was gleaned from 24 executive interviews.
According to Cerulli, the new report is focused on the institutional marketplace and examined all facets of the business, including the gatekeepers, or investment consultants, that wield considerable control over mandates. It found that the consolidation among investment consultants has provided them with greater control over institutional investors’ mandates and allocation decision-making.
The report strongly advises asset managers to focus in creating a solid relationship with investors to sustain and emerge as winners in this growing trend.
