Hatteras Funds offers endowment style portfolios to investors

Turnkey investment solutions are gaining traction with both institutional and retail investors. A unique example of these turnkey products is US-based, Hatteras Funds. Hatteras Funds was founded by a group of partners with a deep understanding of big endowment portfolios. The founders used this knowledge to create a solution that gives smaller investors the ability to replicate the portfolios of large endowments with a smaller asset base.

I spoke with Hatteras Funds CEO, David Perkins about how this strategy is working for investors and what he sees on the horizon for 2012.

Hatteras was founded in 2003. The firm is designed to provide investors with core solutions for alternatives investments. "We wanted to create a consistent experience across our book of business. And to have hedge as a risk mitigator, along with the broader allocation diversification," Perkins explains.

"With the core product, investors get access to the same strategies and managers that the largest endowments and pension funds have access to, but you don't have to have a billion dollars to do it."

Hatteras was the first to market with this kind of solution for investors. Today, they are the largest 40-act fund available to investors, managing $2b. There are only four other firms offering similar products.
