Stabilizing macro headwinds would provide environment for stock picking this year - Opalesque Geneva Roundtable

Fund managers are hoping that macro headwinds will come down this year and stabilize the markets to create an environment of stock picking.

This was discussed at the recent Opalesque Geneva Roundtable, sponsored by Custom House Group and Taussig Capital.

"But the environment is very uncertain, making it difficult to have a clear outlook... It is hard to say which area to look at, except for having a well diversified general approach," Anne-Cathrine Frogg Spadola, First Vice-President at Swiss private bank Mirabaud & Cie commented.

Her wish for market stability was echoed Cédric Kohler, Head of Advisory at fund boutique Fundana S.A.. Kohler He said, "The outlook for us is actually quite positive but we need to have a little bit of market stabilization (not necessarily a rally) to be able to see the stock picking activity bearing its fruit. But I would say it is for now easier to talk to investors about less complex strategies, such as equity long/short, than more complicated strategies."
