Spirit Advisory Launches Specialist Fraud Investigation Services for Hedge Funds

The UK-headquartered specialist provider of fraud investigation services, Spirit Advisory Services, has expanded to offer a service for the alternative investment industry.

Spirit was set up in 2002 by its now chairman, Jerry Ohlson, Ohlson Sr, whose background lies in law enforcement, having joined the City of London police in 1967, attracted by his interest in unravelling fraud. The new venture into the alternatives space is headed up by his son, Greg Ohlson.

Ohlson Sr spent 25 years with the police working on fraud cases, the last four years of which he spent as the head of the City Fraud Squad, the group that now has the national remit for fraud investigation in the UK.

Ohlson Sr then went into the Financial Services Authority (FSA) enforcement division, spending 10 years experiencing the wider perspective of regulatory fraud and market abuse.

He emerged aware that his connections and experience gave him a unique opportunity to offer a thorough fraud investigation and consultancy service. "The expertise at Spirit of the people I used to work with and who we employ gives us the edge over our competitors" Ohlson Sr says. The company now has a network of 40 fraud investigators.

Spirit’s work was always in financial fraud but for a range of different client companies, oil companies, international banks and family offices.
