Claude Porret is a veteran asset manager. She is the founder and CEO of Pfaeffikon, Switzerland based 47 Degrees North Capital Management, an asset management firm specializing in emerging managers and innovative strategies. Porret founded 47North in 2006, leveraging her background as a trader and asset manager to build a firm focused on innovation.
Porret was originally trained as an engineer, and then went on to get her MBA. After completing her MBA program, she was hired by Solomon Brothers in the late 1980s, which is where she discovered her love for finance. Originally a sell-side professional, Porret moved into trading in the early 1990s and later into asset management.

Porret finds less risk in emerging managers
When Porret and her team founded 47North, they built the firm around the idea that the hedge fund industry was going more and more to new, specialized products. This understanding of the industry also led Porret to find that early stage fund managers may actually be better in terms of limiting downside risk than established fund managers or fund 'legends.' This view of the industry differentiates Porret from many others that consider emerging managers to be inherently risky.
