Trend is growing for tailor-made hedge funds products and solutions

The hedge funds space is evolving towards the need for more tailor-made products and solutions. But in the near-term, this is the best time for seeding funds especially those focused on emerging markets. These were the conclusions reached during the latest Opalesque Netherlands Roundtable.

Mark Baak, Head of Portfolio Management at Finles Capital Management said, "We are also seeing more demand from professional investors for tailor-made products or tailor-made solutions. The tailor-made solutions may not come as traditional fund of funds, but as mandates or as a tailor-made hedge fund search or as hedge fund consultancy."

However Baak said that in the foreseeable future, the markets would continue to remain unstable and volatile. Under such an environment, Baak advises hedge strategies like global macro, managed futures and trading oriented managers. "We are also advising our clients to shift part of their long-only equity exposure to long/short equities funds to lower risk. Willem’s fund is a good example," he said.

He also expects the capital inflows into hedge funds to continue.
