Presenting at the Peregrine Capital Introduction event in Cape Town, South Africa, last week, Mark O. Witten and Ronnie Mazor of Kaizen Asset Management, outlined their forecasts for the Kaizen Strategic Opportunities Fund, and reported many opportunities out there for investment returns.
The firm believes that we should not expect a global recession as commodity markets remain resilient and central banks globally are adjusting their monetary policy sufficiently to spur growth.
The Kaizen Strategic Opportunities Fund is a South African domiciled multi-strategy fund, which invests in a diversified portfolio of securities, commodities, derivatives, gilts and cash. The core focus is long/short equities, using alternative asset and derivatives for hedging. Witten explains: "We combine top-down macro-economic analysis with bottom-up stock-picking, with due regard to the global investment climate and risk themes. We utilise technical indicators to ascertain trade suitability and momentum metrics to determine the timing of trades. We take advantage of short-term opportunities or anomalies but concentrate efforts on making gains over the longer term."
The firm then emphasises the types of companies to invest in with consideration of reversion to mean in their relationships or ratings rather than the overall direction of the market.
