Reviewing history is always valuable. Reviewing recent financial history, in today’s context, can also be enlightening. Newswire Aljazeera has produced a four-part fast-tempo documentary on the 2008 credit crisis called "Meltdown", which started being transmitted last month." The first part’s title, "The men who crashed the world", refers to Countrywide’s CEO Angelo Mozelo, "a billionaire mortgage-seller who fooled millions"; Bear Stearns’ CEO Jimmy Caine, "a high-rolling banker with a fatal weakness"; Lehman Brothers’ CEO Richard Fuld, "a ferocious Wall Street predator"; and U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry (Hank) Paulson as "the power behind the throne."

Aljazeera’s excellent and detailed 42 minute-film is led by commentaries from Phil Angelides, chairman of the U.S. Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission and many other financial players.
