Monsoon Capital launches one of the first alternative strategy UCITS IV funds

Opalesque has just learned trough dms Management that Monsoon Capital, an alternative asset manager, has launched one of the first alternative strategy UCITS IV-compliant funds around.

The Monsoon Asia-Pacific Systematic Fund (MAPS), a Dublin-based UCITS IV fund with daily liquidity, is a fully systematic managed futures strategy, focusing on the most liquid equity indices across the following Asia-Pacific markets: Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Korea, India, Japan, Australia and Singapore. The strategy dynamically adjusts net exposures based on price patterns, resulting in low correlated returns to major indices.

While the fund came online in September, Monsoon Capital had been trading the program since Nov-2010 with proprietary capital. From Nov-2010 to Aug-2011, it has returned (net) 51.5%. It has done so with a monthly correlation to the MSCI Asia-Pacific Index of only 0.08%, and has performed well in tail risk environments such as the Japanese earthquake (March 2011 +11.8%) and the U.S. credit downgrade (August 2011 +17.5%).
