Hedge fund leaders give 'best ideas’ on U.S. television

CNBC and Institutional Investor's sold out "Delivering Alpha" conference brought leading hedge fund managers onto U.S. mainstream television this week. All panels were professionally moderated by the energetic CNBC staff, and some produced courageous predictions.

For example, Marathon Asset's Bruce Richards seemed pretty convinced that Greece will go through a "hard restructuring", and Ireland as well as Portugal will eventually end up restructuring their debt. Avenue Capital's Marc Lasry added a Greek default would be a "nightmare". Richards pointed out that Argentina's default in 2002 affected "only" $100bn, while the total of the three countries’ debt is already piled up at $1 trillion.

Gold at $2500 within a year?

Paul Touradji from Touradji Capital said gold may reach $2500 within a year, as the precious metal has to be viewed not only as a commodity but has become a currency, with currency-typical extended moves and underlying dynamics. Today's rise in gold prices has to be viewed as a confidence vote into this 'currency’ independent of supply and demand aspects.
