Vertex’ multi-strategy fund exits direct equity exposures to reduce risk

Vertex Evolution UCITS Fund, which is managed by Vertex Capital Management, a London-based private investment boutique established in 2009, has exited from direct equity exposure to further reduce risks this September after the negative trends in August appeared to have spilled over in the first trading days of this month.

It is a systematic multi-strategy hedge fund that invests across asset classes, global sectors and active trading styles.

In an exclusive interview with Opalesque , Vertex Capital’s Founder and Chief Investment Officer Carl Mauritzon said the decision was made after Vertex Evolution Fund generated -2.3% losses in August (Euros) with a volatility of 9% . In July, the fund was up 0.5% with a 5% volatility. It is down 4.9% YTD (to end-August) since its April 2011 inception. But Mauritzon pointed out that the fund’s performance last month was still in line with the risk-profile the firm had projected at the beginning of the month.

Following a dreadful month on the markets, the UCITS Alternative Index Global was down in August (-1.81%) bringing its year to date performance to -2.55%. In terms of AUM, the UCITS hedge fund space witnessed a decline of -2.96% that month.
