A SQUARE Index posted its strongest month this year with +1.92% gains (+2.38% YTD)

The Opalesque A SQUARE Index registered its strongest month this year in April with +1.92% gains, bringing its year-to-date performance at +2.38%.

The positive gains last month reverses the -0.34% net loss posted in March and an improvement over the almost flat performance in February at +0.99%. The index opened this year slightly negative, returning -0.55%in January.

Meanwhile, the A SQUARE Funds of Funds Index rose 0.31% in April, bringing the year-to-date performance to +1.16%. The figure is an improvement over the -0.08% net loss recorded in March.

Over the last 12 months, performance of the A SQUARE Index ranged between a gain of 3.12% in September 2010 and a loss of 1.97% in May 2010, with 8 positive and 4 negative months, adding to a cumulative gain of 11.14%. For the first time this year, the A SQUARE Index outperformed the HFRI Fund Weighted Composite Index, which returned +1.65% in April (+10.76% over the last 12 months).

Both the A SQUARE Index and the A SQUARE Funds of Funds Index posted better-than-expected returns in terms of absolute risk. They outperformed their benchmarks over the analyzed 12-month period.

Volatility (defined as annualized standard deviation) was 5.22 for the A SQUARE Index and 5.21 for the FoF......................
