Strong yet small hedge fund managers teed up to investors at SALT conference

The names of panelists speaking at last week’s SALT conference in Las Vegas, NV were very impressive, including political and economic leaders (Former President George W Bush, Colin Powell, Niall Ferguson), as well as some of the biggest names in the hedge fund industry (Steven Cohen, David Richter, Izzy Englander, etc.).

Overall, the conference, which is in its third year, was an enormous success. Attendees Opalesque spoke with described it as the best conference they had ever attended, with highly relevant panelist discussions throughout. But while conference organizer and Managing Partner at global alternative investment firm SkyBridge Capital, Anthony Scaramucci may have pulled off the media coup of the year (the conference scored a veritable hat trick, securing not only Former President Bush’s first comments on bin Laden’s death, but also a live interview of Steve Cohen, and media access to a large number of hedge fund managers for the guilty verdict announcement for the Rajaratnam trial), small hedge fund managers may have been the clear winners at the Vegas event.

Small managers clearly saw great traction with investors during the conference, Victor Oviedo, partner of SkyBridge and director of SALT told Opalesque. And, this was during a year where the conference had its greatest number of investors and the most deal-making unfolding on the sidelines.
